This midwest Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association (RMHA) was formed September 1998 as a Wisconsin Not-for-Profit Corporation. Founding memberships included several breeding farms surrounding Madison, WI with owners banding together to share knowledge about this rare breed and to learn how to produce offspring that would be registerable with the RMHA. There is much to learn about this breed's husbandry and how to follow RMHA Bi-Laws regarding DNA testing, registration, and certification of Rocky Mountain Horse offspring in the best interest of maintaining breed bloodlines.
Currently our Chapter includes one breeding farm membership with about 50 head of horses on their property and our membership represents a total of about 120 head of registered Rocky Mountain Horses. As the proud owners of one of the most pleasurable riding horses on the planet, our members stay true to the RMHA's mission. We are very interested in promoting the continuance of old bloodline Rockies and the farms that breed these rare horses.
Rockies are absolute people pleasers with a gentle temperament and each horse comes with the warning that it is almost impossible to own just one. As a bonus, Rockies have a smooth riding gait which is the envy of all our trotting horse friends. This envy is especially noticeable at the end of a long days ride when their backsides are sore and horses are tired. Rocky owners on the other hand, are ready for more bounceless, painfree riding as our horses remain calm and fresh at days end. With a horse like that it's no wonder we all want to see this breed increase in numbers and continue to be available for generations to come.
Most meetings and events are held at Liberty Farm which members fondly call "The Club House". Located among beautiful hills of Mt Vernon, Wisconsin, Liberty Farm is about 25 minutes West of Madison.Old bloodline Rockies have been bred at this farm for 20 years by owner's, founding chapter member's, and current director's: Bill and Cindi Haack. Fully invested in this one breed, Cindi and Bill have expertise regarding "everything Rocky" including equine husbandry and handling Rockies in the best manner. They provide a warm welcome to all who come to visit and are certainly a treasure to those lucky enough to know them well.
If you have never been up close and personal with the rare, wonderful Rocky Mountain Horse, then we recommend Bill and Cindi as first on your list of contacts. You are most welcome to come to any chapter event where you will have an opportunity to meet our members firsthand.
