This midwest Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association (RMHA) was formed September 1998 as a Wisconsin Not-for-Profit Corporation. Founding memberships included several breeding farms surrounding Madison, WI with owners banding together to share knowledge about this rare breed and to learn how to produce offspring that would be registerable with the RMHA. There is much to learn about this breed's husbandry and how to follow RMHA Bi-Laws regarding DNA testing, registration, and certification of Rocky Mountain Horse offspring in the best interest of maintaining breed bloodlines.
Currently our Chapter includes one breeding farm membership with about 50 head of horses on their property and our membership represents a total of about 102 head of registered Rocky Mountain Horses. As the proud owners of one of the most pleasurable riding horses on the planet, our members stay true to the RMHA's mission. We are very interested in promoting the continuance of old bloodline Rockies and the farms that breed these rare horses.
As a chapter, we support the Rocky Mountain Horse Association's (RMHA)explicit purpose of preserving, promoting, breeding, and developing the Rocky Mountain Horse®. There are quarterly meetings, a quarterly newsletter is published, and we sponsor events throughout the season. Our focus is the Rocky Mountain Horse Breed. This is a rare, gaited horse with an extremely people oriented personality that makes this horse the perfect choice for all ages. (While we are not a trail, camping club, there are clubs who have trail riding as their purpose. Some of our members have duel memberships in our Chapter and also in a trail riding club.)
If you already have a Rocky and are looking to spend time with people who have like interests, we provide a safe and supportive environment for families and people of all ages to have fun horsing around while at the same time improving your riding skills and horse sense. Our Chapter sponsors special events open to all breeds such as a Fun Show and Poker Run. We also have opportunities to learn together in workshops and clinics and in our quarterly newsletter. Most meetings and events are held at Liberty Farm which members fondly refer to as "The Club House". Located among beautiful hills of Mt Vernon, Wisconsin, Liberty Farm is about 25 minutes West of Madison and across the street from Donald Park, with about 20 miles of trails.
We are a down to earth group and welcome everyone to take some time to come out and visit us. You will be glad you did.
